Solvent-borne, oil-based wood stain that absorbs into the wood and does not form an even film after the first treatment. Protects wood from weathering by slowing down the effects of moisture and sunlight.
Recommended use:
Exterior walls, fences, untreated or previously stained wooden structures. Not suitable for interior treatment of greenhouses.
Characteristics:
Suitable for exterior wooden surfaces, sawn and planed wooden surfaces, various wood panels, impregnated wooden surfaces, and thermally modified wooden surfaces according to instructions.
Colors: Valtti translucent wood finishes. Can be tinted into Tikkurila translucent exterior colors.
Coverage: Sawn timber: 4–8 m²2/l. Planed wooden surfaces and rough surfaces: 8–12 m²2/l.
Application method: brush.
Drying time at 23°C and relative air humidity 50%: Touch dry in 4-8 hours. Can be recoated after 24 hours.
Application conditions: The surface to be treated must be dry. This means that the moisture content of the wood is below 20%. During application and drying, the temperature of the air, surface and wood stain must be at least +5 °C and the relative air humidity below 80%.
Untreated wooden surfaces: Remove any dirt, dust and loose material from the surface to be treated with a wire brush or cleaning brush. Wash all soiled and moldy surfaces with Tikkurila Homeenpoisto according to instructions. Prime the surface at the earliest possible construction stage with Tikkurila Valtti Primer wood-priming oil. Protect all plants from Valtti Color splashes and priming oil.
Surfaces pre-treated with wood preservative or wood stain: Use a scraper and/or wire brush to remove any loose materials and wood from the surface. Clean the surface and wash it with Homeenpoisto if necessary. If a distinct, possibly glossy film remains on the wood surface, remove it or at least sand it carefully. Protect any plants from splashes of Valtti Color. To achieve a uniform surface and avoid color differences, keep enough tinted Valtti Color mixed in a single container. Stir Valtti Color thoroughly before use and occasionally during use.
Application: Apply Valtti Color evenly and continuously along the entire length of a log or several boards to avoid overlapping. Treat the end zones of the wood with special care. Apply 2 coats; thin coats on planed and wooden surfaces. Always use a tinted product for treating a new surface. Check the condition of the treated surface and apply maintenance treatment as needed when the stained surface begins to fade. The maintenance treatment interval is influenced by, among other things, location, direction relative to the sun and weather conditions. Before finishing, check the condition of the wooden surface and the functionality of the structure.
Maintenance instructions: Handle the painted surface with care, as the product
reaches its ultimate hardness and durability in about four weeks under normal conditions. If the surface needs cleaning soon after treatment, use a soft brush, damp cleaning cloth or mop. One month after painting, a soiled surface can be cleaned with a suitable Tikkurila detergent. Clean stains and heavily soiled surfaces with a suitable Tikkurila detergent. After washing, rinse with water and let dry.
