Robert Plant has announced the release of Saving Grace : the first album featuring a new group of distinguished musicians he calls “a musical book of the lost and found.” The album’s genesis began during lockdown in The Shire, when Plant ’s usual wanderings were all but banned. While his recent adventures have centered around Nashville, reuniting with Alison Krauss for the chart-topping and multiple Grammy-nominated album Raise The Roof in 2021, it was in the English countryside that Robert Plant connected with this diverse group of musicians who, through their own experiences, share his penchant for his favorite corners of emotional songwriting. Plant , along with Saving Grace —vocalist Suzi Dian , drummer Oli Jefferson , guitarist Tony Kelsey , banjoist and string player Matt Worley , and cellist Barney Morse-Brown —have spent the past six years developing a wide-ranging workshop of styles and personalities, weaving time and circumstance together with joy and unstinting abandon.
“ We laugh a lot, really. I think it suits me. I love to laugh ,” says Plant . “You know, I can’t find a reason to be too serious about anything. I’m not stuffy. The sweetness of the whole thing… These are lovely people and they’re playing all sorts of things they’ve never been able to do before. They’ve become unique stylists and together they’ve kind of landed in a really interesting place.”
Following his previous acclaimed releases for Nonesuch Records – 2014’s Lullaby and... The Ceaseless Roar and 2017’s Carry Fire , Saving Grace presents another chapter in Robert Plant ’s ongoing evolution. Produced by Robert Plant and the band Saving Grace , Saving Grace was recorded between April 2019 and January 2025 in the Cotswolds. Saving Grace breathes new life into a collection of centuries-old music. A treasure trove of songs, brought back to life by Memphis Minnie, Bob Mosley (Moby Grape), Blind Willie Johnson, The Low Anthem, Martha Scanlan, Sarah Siskind, Mimi Parker and Alan Sparhawk.
