Quo Vadis (Hermes)

Full luxury edition of one of the most widely read novels of the 20th century

Rome during the reign of Nero is an outwardly dazzling place. Rich feasts and poetry contests are organised, and the entertainments in the Circus Maximus seem endless. On the other side of the coin, however, lie debauchery and the lack of morals, the poverty of the people, and the madness of the emperor, who sets fire to his own city.

In these dark days of the decline of the Roman Empire, the young soldier Marcus Vinicius falls in love with Lygia – the captive daughter of a barbarian king. But he does not suspect that his beloved professes the Christian faith, for which many have already lost their lives.

The fates of Vinicius and Lygia become intertwined, and both watch the world they know change before their eyes. And while the apostles Peter and Paul try to save the immoral city from ruin, Christians are subjected to brutal persecution.
