Description

Got me out of breath with ideas
One evening, once,
Jenny became a little puddle of water.
in the flowering rye.

Jenny is shivering all over, Jenny
It flares up suddenly.
Quick, soaked to the knees,
in the blooming rye.

If someone meets someone
in the flowering rye
and kissed that someone
Once to someone,

So how could anyone know?
Come on, once upon a time
Someone kissed someone.
in the flowering rye?

The publisher "Damyan Yakov" has added a new volume to its luxury poetry series: a collection of poems by Robert Burns. The edition is bilingual. The Bulgarian translation is by Vladimir Svintila.

**The occasion?** In 2009, it is 250 years since the birth of one of Scotland's greatest poets (25 January 1759), and in his homeland this anniversary is being marked on a larger scale than the official national holiday. What is more, one of his poems is accepted as an unofficial national anthem. Abroad, "the true poet in the enthusiasm of passion," as he called himself, will be celebrated by his countless admirers with new editions of his enduring poems, verses and letters to the women he loved. In familiar and entirely new translations into all the literary languages, "Comin' Thro' the Rye," "Old Love," "The Lass That Made the Bed for Me," "A Maiden's Song," "Nocturnal Conversation," "Song," "Nancy," "Meg o' the Mill" and many others will ring out once again.
Robert Burns was the son of a farmer, and he himself was called the "ploughman poet" and the "poet of the people." He mastered the English literary language to perfection, but he created magnificent poetry about life and love, written in the dialect of southern Scotland. He travelled extensively and collected Scottish folk songs, which he reworked and adapted.

Robert Burns won recognition and fame as early as his first book, "Poems." This fame and his irresistible good looks were early keys to women's hearts: young girls and happily married matrons, poor maidservants and wealthy aristocrats. To him they were all innocent and pure, and each captured his heart completely, but only for a short while. His poetry is a chronicle of his amorous raptures and bitter disappointments. His debauched reputation finds precise expression in his poem "The Fornicator." The letters he wrote to his short-lived sweethearts, to his relatives and to his friends are an invaluable source for his future biographers. From them we learn of his fiery passions, of the long list of illegitimate children and his dull marriage, and of his devoted love for his native land.

In Bulgaria, Burns's poems are well known and beloved by generations of Bulgarians. The little volume "In the Blooming Rye" The publisher "Damyan Yakov" offers yet another new opportunity to revisit some of the most thrilling works of the Scottish bard.
