Kent or Kent Coupe is a team card game. The goal is to collect four identical cards and then use a secret signal to make your partner shout KENT!"
How to play:
First, make sure you have an even number of players. Randomly divide into teams of two players. Each team must meet and agree on a secret signal. This signal should not be verbal, but also not too obvious to the other teams. Some example signals could be pursing your lips, winking with one eye, scratching your ear, etc.
Once all teams have a secret signal, all players sit in a circle, with teammates sitting opposite each other.
To start a round, say "Ready, go!"
Simultaneously, each player may discard a card from their hand and then take any card from the centre of the table. This is a continuous process, with no fixed order; players exchange cards from their hand with those appearing on the table. If no player wants to change a face-up card, set them aside and draw new ones.
Your goal (or your partner's) is to collect four identical cards (for example, four threes or four eights, etc.). When you have collected four identical cards, use your secret signal to prompt your teammate to call "KENT!"
If your partner calls "KENT!" and you have four identical cards (or vice versa), then your team wins a point and the round ends. If your teammate calls "KENT!" but you do not have four identical cards (or vice versa), then your team loses a point. If both partners have four identical cards and one of them calls "DOUBLE KENT", they win two points.
You may also call "STOP KENT!" and point to a player from another team if you think they have collected four identical cards. If you guess correctly, you win a point, but if you are wrong, you lose a point and must start a new round.
The winner is the team that collects 5 points (or you may play to any number of points you wish).
