The first chainsaw with a magnesium piston

For forestry professionals, the innovative STIHL MS 400 CM petrol chainsaw offers a number of advantages thanks to the magnesium piston developed by STIHL. Thanks to the low weight of the piston and the lightweight design, this chainsaw has an excellent power-to-weight ratio.

However, it is not only efficiency that is important for cutting, trimming and processing wood in medium stocks. To enable you to work efficiently, the STIHL MS 400 CM chainsaw is equipped with STIHL M-Tronic in the extended version. In this case, additional calibration of the system is possible. You will be supported by STIHL ElastoStart as soon as you start the chainsaw. As a result, starting is particularly easy. To protect your muscles and joints, the STIHL anti-vibration system reduces vibrations. To be able to work without interruption for as long as possible, the STIHL MS 400 CM petrol chainsaw has a long-life air filtration system. It consists of a pre-filter system and an HD2 filter.

RELIABLE OPERATION WITH OPTIMAL POWER. With STIHL M-Tronic, you have the optimum power of your work tool right from the start. The fully electronic engine management regulates the ignition timing and fuel metering in every working situation, taking into account external conditions such as temperature, altitude and fuel quality.

STIHL anti-vibration system

FOR MORE PLEASANT WORK. When your tool is fully deployed, vibrations occur, which are felt primarily in the grip area. The buffer and spring elements of the STIHL anti-vibration system reduce the transmission of vibrations from the engine to the grip and thus to your body. The effect: Your tool sits more firmly in your hand and you can work with significantly less fatigue.

When changing the cutting attachment, the nuts on the guide wheel cover can no longer be lost.

Manual decompression

EFFORTLESS STARTING. The decompression valve makes it easier to start your appliance. When starting, you can open the valve to release some of the compressed mixture from the cylinder. This protects the starting system and you will need less effort to apply to the starter rope.

HD2 filter

The HD2 filter, made of polyethylene filter material, has up to 70% finer pores compared to cotton and polyamide filters and filters even the finest dust particles. It is water and oil-tight. Its complete cleaning is very easy. The filter can be installed and removed quickly without the use of tools thanks to the quick connection. (similar to the picture)

Compensator

LOW MAINTENANCE COSTS. A regulating system in the carburetor, the compensator, by equalizing the pressure ensures that despite the increasing contamination of the air filter, the engine power, the quality of the exhaust gases and the fuel consumption remain almost constant over a long period of time. Therefore, clean the air filter only when there is a noticeable drop in power. This allows you to operate for a long time without maintenance.

Long-lasting air filter system for chainsaws

LONGER FILTER LIFE. The pre-filter removes larger, coarse particles from the air flow before they can reach the filter itself. The HD2 filter protects the drive mechanism even from fine dust, ensuring a long engine life, long cleaning intervals and easy maintenance for your chainsaw. Only when equipped with a pre-filter and HD2 filter can we speak of a long-lasting filter system for chainsaws. With this system, you benefit from a significantly longer filter life compared to traditional filter systems.

Magnesium piston

The extremely lightweight magnesium piston provides excellent weight-to-power ratio and long service life. The piston is optimized for high maximum rpm.

Oil pump with flow control

Allows the user to precisely dose the amount of oil supplied depending on the needs. In position E, it is possible to reduce the amount of chain oil supplied by up to 50%. When working with very long cutting attachments or cutting very dry wood, the user is able to adjust the pump so that a larger amount of oil is supplied. (similar to the picture)

Combination lever with stop function

MAKES CONTROL EASIER. Only one more starting position of the combination lever is required. After switching off, the control lever automatically springs back into the working position thanks to the stop function. This means that the warm machine can be started again directly.

Stihl Ematic system

REDUCES OIL CONSUMPTION. The STIHL Ematic system consists of a STIHL Ematic or Ematic S bar, a STIHL Oilomatic chain and an oil pump with flow control. It ensures that the chain oil reaches where it is needed for lubrication. This can reduce oil consumption by up to 50%. If you often work in dusty conditions or use long bars, the new oil pump system allows you to easily and quickly increase the oil quantity at any time.
